Red Cross, Greater Richmond Chapter Latino Pilot Project
Opportunities both Summer and Fall 2008
The purpose of the student driven Latino Pilot Project is to increase an estimated 50,000 Latino and other diverse Virginia residents’ ability to prevent and prepare for an emergency or disaster.  In addition to sharing related bi-lingual literature with each household, students will also administer a brief one-page survey.  The survey questions will focus on prevention and preparedness as well the underlying causes of immigration.  A half-day forum will be held in late November or early December 2008 to discuss the survey results.  The project will be implemented in three phases: (1) Coordinated by UR students, March/April survey tool test in 3-5 central Virginia apartment communities; (2) 15-20 additional Central Virginia and potentially other area communities surveyed; and, (3) in partnership with other Red Cross chapters, Virginia institutions of higher education, and community partners, provide literature and administer the survey tool in diverse communities across the state.
