The Department has intermittent opportunities for student assistance.
Some are dependent on sources external to the department and are not
always predictable; often the number of awards available per year
depends upon the amount of funding made available to the Department
through the VCU Graduate School. Students should check the department
website or contact the appropriate program coordinator directly (see
below) for information on available opportunities.
- Graduate assistantships: Available each year
on a limited basis for doctoral students and intermittently for
master’s level students. Students who receive assistantships
may not hold any employment or appointment of a remunerative nature
during the term of their assistantships without the approval of
their graduate program directors. Current assistantships,
when available, are listed on the Graduate
Assistantship page.
- MPH students: A limited number of assistantships
may be available in the spring or early summer for students matriculating
in the fall semester. Assistantships may include funding to cover
student tuition and, in some cases, a small stipend to assist
with living expenses. When available, assistantships are awarded
based on academic achievement, any public health work experience,
and financial need. Student recipients are expected to work in
the department for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Doctoral students: A limited number of assistantships
are available each year for doctoral students matriculating in
the fall. The assistantships cover tuition and provide a stipend
for living expenses. Student recipients are expected to work in
the department part-time as research assistants, teaching assistants,
or in similar roles.
- Financial aid is available through VCU: Further
information is available at http://www.vcu.edu/enroll/finaid/
