GOALS and OBJECTIVES of the MPH PROGRAM


GOAL 1.
INSTRUCTION
Educate MPH students to become well grounded in the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes of public health practice and demonstrate their ability to apply these essentials through coursework, internships, and the MPH Research Project.

Objective 1.

Recruit students with prospects for becoming successful public health professionals.
Objective 2.
Recruit a culturally and ethnically diverse student body.
Objective 3.
Ensure that students are well-trained in essential ares of public health.
Objective 4.

Assure that students have appropriate research skills.

GOAL 2.
RESEARCH
Provide a rigorous research environment that will contribute to the advancement of public health knowledge and improved health in populations.

Objective 1.

Recruit and retain well-qualified faculty members.
Objective 2.
Increase level of sponsored research.
Objective 3.
Increase the number of research publications.
Objective 4.

Encourage student-authored publications and presentations.

GOAL 3.
SERVICE
Contribute to the university and greater community through service to public health agencies, organizations, and community-based groups.

Objective 1.

Increase number of service activities by faculty.
Objective 2.
Assure that students participate in service learning as part of service to the community.
Objective 3.
Assure that MPH students share their skills and expertise by collaborating with community-based organizations, public health agencies, and other groups.
Objective 4.

Provide training for professionals in the public health workforce.

GOAL 4.
PROGRAM
DEVELOPMENT
Advance the development of curricular, student and faculty resources.

Objective 1.

Increase financial resources to the department.
Objective 2.
Provide adequate space and equipment for teaching, research, administrations, and service.
Objective 3.
Encourage effective communication as the department grows.
Objective 4.
Encourage interdisciplinary and inter-school training.
Objective 5.
Continue to enhance relationships within and outside the University to maximize resources available to program faculty and students.
Objective 6.
Assess the changing needs of public health practice annually and develop curricula and tracks to meet those needs.
