Important Note:
The admission guidelines aim to ensure the selection of competent students whose motivation, ability, education and character qualify them for doctoral study in preparation for a career in epidemiology.
Number and kind of credits required for Admission
- MPH degree or a master's degree in a related field including courses in epidemiology and biostatistics or
- Enrollment in the MPH program with degree expected prior to matriculation in the Ph.D. program.
Academic history and other requirements
- GPA - 3.0 for all graduate classes,
- GRE = 1,200 combined score plus 4.5-5 on the written section (or 1,800 combined score or better if old GRE) with a 600 on the quantitative recommended
- TOEFL score of 600 minimum
- A personal statement of career goals and a summary of motivation, education and aims in pursuing a Ph.D. in epidemiology
- An interview
- Three letters of recommendation
Transfer students
Students enrolled in a qualified doctoral program at another University will be considered for transfer into the VCU Ph.D. in Epidemiology program if they fulfill the above requirements. University regulations will determine what credits may count toward the VCU degree.
