COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will provide an overview of the epidemiology of intentional injury. Prevalence, risk factors, and consequences of violence will be elaborated. The role of public health in moving research to effective practice in the US and world-wide will be the overall focus. Upon completion of this course, you will have gained an understanding of the following:
Dr. Meyer has 18 years experience collaboratively designing, implementing, evaluating, and replicating effective health promotion and prevention programs for early adolescents. The programs she has helped design and to evaluate focus on violence prevention, depression prevention, and cancer prevention in both rural and urban settings. She is on the faculty of VCU’s CDC Academic Center of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention and involved in the implementation and evaluation of innovative violence prevention programs. An evolving research interest of hers involves developing effective strategies for dissemination/diffusion of integrated, comprehensive best practices for prevention in secondary schools.
